What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is now one of the most sought after fitness programs worldwide, and thats because it works.
CrossFit is a strength and conditoning program that is for everyone. Our needs differ only by degree, not kind. Everything is completely scalable meaning that a complete beginner can be working out alongside an experienced CrossFitter and complete the same workout, simply with changes in load, intensity or complexity.
Community is at the heart of the CrossFit model. It is all-inclusive, and effective for a diverse range of people. It is amazing what you can achieve with the encouragement and support of a community behind you.
CrossFit is defined as; “constantly varied, functional movement performed at a high intensity.”
So what does that mean?
To put simply; CrossFit is functional movement (ways of moving our body that we would do in everyday life - think carrying groceries, lifting objects, playing with kids) that are constantly varied (every day is different, this keeps things interesting!), and are performed at a high intensity (intensity is key for progress).
It is a strength and conditioning program that focuses on developing general physical preparedness; to develop ability in a wide range of physical fitness components, namely; cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.
It develops a person’s ability to perform all movements capable of the human body. To push, pull, squat, lunge, bend, run, row, and much more. Instead of isolating specific muscles we focus on how the body moves as one.
